AMMAN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Sunday reported an illiteracy rate of 4.5 percent in 2024, marking a sharp decline over the past two decades.
The announcement by the Department of Statistics came ahead of the International Literacy Day, observed annually on Sept. 8.
According to the department, illiteracy among Jordanian males was 2.3 percent, whereas it was 6.8 percent among females.
The youth demographic recorded the lowest illiteracy rate, with only 0.7 percent of individuals aged 15 to 24 being illiterate, while Jordanians aged 65 and above had the highest rate, at 23.3 percent. ■
