UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The continuation of a well-targeted humanitarian assistance in Syria must be ensured, Indonesia's UN envoy said on Tuesday.

"We are deeply alarmed by the increase of attacks and civilian casualties in Idlib, as well as the consequent additional suffering for many civilians in the Hajin area caused by air strikes and intense fighting," Dian Triansyah Djani, permanent representative of Indonesia to UN, said at a Security Council meeting on the Middle East.

On Hajin, it is deeply disturbing to learn that many civilians have been reported killed and injured, and that thousand of people were displaced from Hajin to the Al-Hol camp, the Indonesian diplomat said.

Over 11.7 million people in Syria are said to be depending on humanitarian assistance, which makes the effort daunting but critical, he said.

"We are delighted therefore, to learn that the second convoy has reached Rukban, where around 41,000 people received life-saving assistance," he said.

His delegation fully believes that "a normal and peaceful life for all Syrians is possible," he said.

"In the absence of a political solution, in line with Resolution 2254 [2015], the humanitarian situation will continue to deteriorate," he said.

Indonesia stands ready to support the work of the UN Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen in advancing the political process in Syria and finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, Djani said.
